FINDING YOUR PLACE IN THE PUZZLE
We were pleased to welcome around 75 faculty, staff, parents and donors to the 2017 Annual Meeting. The theme, of ‘finding our place in the puzzle’ took on special meaning:
- We thanked retiring Board Members and welcomed new ones, whose sage guidance we rely on to lead us onward
- After much consultation and discernment during the past year, voting members approved a motion to allow up to two representatives on the Board of Directors from non-Mennonite communities to ensure all Rockway students and families are represented in decision-making and as a way of living out our commitment to being more inclusive. It was stressed that this motion in no way represents any change to Rockway’s mission, vision, values or name. It is about recognizing that the Rockway puzzle is much more holistic and complete, when all Rockway constituents can find their place in our puzzle.
- Rockway Board of Directors signed a certificate recognizing Rockway as a Living Wage Employer at the Champion level, demonstrating its commitment to honouring and valuing the work of all faculty and staff
- Guests heard about Rockway’s new Business Program, which is the next chapter in Rockway’s innovative programming
While we ushered in these changes, we continued important traditions of opening and closing the meeting with prayer and hymns, and heard from the Chair of the Board, John Torrance-Perks. We also heard from Principal, Ann Schultz, who reviewed the past year in the life of our school and highlighted how you continue to support students in becoming Reflective, Responsible, Globally-Minded and Compassionate graduates.
