Every season OFSAA gives out the Leadership in School Sport Award. This prestigious award is presented to a coach who exemplifies the values of fair play and good sportsmanship, while promoting enjoyment, personal growth and educational achievement through school sport. In single ‘A ’basketball and volleyball, our CWOSSA region has only had four winners since 1991 and one of them was legendary former Rockway basketball coach, Roger Stover, in 1998.

During the Girls ‘A’ Volleyball OFSAA banquet, which Rockway hosted earlier this month, it was discovered that not only one, but TWO of Rockway’s coaches were being honoured this year.

bernieBernie Burnett and Ray Boehm both have an impressive resume of championship titles, including the highest level of high school sport – OFSAA gold medals! They have been involved in convening various leagues, tournaments, and championships over their prestigious careers. But aside from these accolades and contributions, there has been an overwhelming response from past players sharing highlights, life lessons learned, and gratitude for these two men.

Ray is an amazing resource for warm up games, team bonding, conditioning, or game strategies, and he can come up with a drill to break down any skill in a matter of seconds. Bernie always gives his players the impression that he is having a great time and there is no where else he would rather be, whether it is a practice, a game, or he is just driving the bus.IMG_3734

Ray and Bernie, we are so thankful for all you have taught us, all the great memories from over the years, and are so proud that OFSAA has recognized you!
