ROCKWAY IS GROWING! Due to increased demand, Rockway has added a second section for its Grade 8 program for the 2017-2018 school year. If you know anyone who is considering switching schools, please pass on this good news and let them know that class sizes in Grade 8 will be between 14 -18.
Coming Soon! New Website! –
Rockway’s new website will launch on August 1, 2017. Please look for more updates and information in the coming weeks.
This summer, we are renovating Rockway’s basement – reconfigured Visual Art, Digital Media and Family Studies spaces. The Assembly Area will get a complete makeover too – ceiling, floors, sound, and lighting…all of this to give students better learning experiences.
Revitalizing our facilities is one of four priorities contained in Lead Us Onward, a road map to Rockway’s 75th anniversary in 2019/2020. We want to make sure that Rockway remains viable AND sustainable for future generations. We want to make sure that future students have opportunities for bright futures too. What will Lead Us Onward do?
- Sustainable Mission – ensure the financial health necessary to sustain Rockway’s mission
- Embracing All Students – make sure we continue to support families and students, and grow enrolment, so that more students can benefit from a Rockway education
- Inspiring Minds – continue to give students exceptional learning experiences inside and outside the classroom, such as the new business program
- Revitalizing facilities and equipment – make sure students have the best possible learning environment and tools
Lead Us Onward is a 4 year campaign to raise $3 million. Read more, and thank you for Leading Us Onward with your support.
Announcing – the 2017-18 Senior Play (grades 9-12)
“The Pink Panther Strikes Again”
A few years ago, we produced “Get Smart” and the response was so positive that I went looking for another adapted script, with a recognizable title…this time adapted from a film for the stage.
If you don’t know the PInk Panther films, I encourage you to watch one or two over the Summer. TCM often schedules them or you might be able to stream them. Make sure to watch the ones where Peter Sellers is Inspector Jacques Clouseau. As much as I like Steve Martin, the two films with him playing Clouseau (more recent) just aren’t as good.
Auditions for the play will be in October, and the performance dates are March 1-3, 2018.
If you know your child is interested in being in the play (there are a LOT of roles, small, medium and large), I encourage you to talk it over. As in the past, I will make a copy available, that can be checked out and read in the library, in September.
This year, we will be trying a new initiative. Once the show is cast, I will invite any parent who would like, to attend a reading of the play, and also, to hear a bit about my vision for it, and what the expectations are as far as the time commitment goes. I will announce a date for that gathering when we return in September. Thank you, and have a Grand Summer!
