Spiritual Emphasis Week 2017: Changing the way we view racism

Posted on: September 15th, 2017

September 26 – 28th will be Spiritual Emphasis Week at Rockway, this year, with a focus on racism.

We are very excited to welcome Dr. Drew Hart, professor of theology, author and activist, as our guest speaker. Hart teaches at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and is in demand as a keynote speaker, where his presentations connect his pastoral experience with his academic training.

Dr. Hart will give three chapel addresses to our student body, as well as one evening address for parents and community members, and will also visit classes during his time here.

His three addresses are as follows:

  1. Taking Jesus Seriously  – exploring how Jesus challenges how we confront oppression
  2. Trouble I’ve Seen – telling stories and challenging our Canadian history
  3. Where Do We Go From Here? – Jesus-shaped practices for the journey

Parents and community members are invited to an evening session on Wednesday, September 27th at 7 p.m. where Dr. Hart will give a summary of his addresses and facilitate a discussion on racism in the modern age. We are grateful for Mennonite Church Eastern Canada, who are sponsoring the evening session.

Please consider joining us!
