Peer Tutoring – Senior students are sometimes available to tutor younger students in specific subjects. Both students who are interested in tutoring, and students who want this additional support, are invited to contact Student Services for information.
Professional Tutoring – Students and parents/guardians can contact Student Services for names of professional tutors.

Course Information
Course Selection
Course selection takes place in the spring for the following year. Students can change their selection up until the first two weeks of each new semester. The Drop/Add deadline is printed in the Student Planner as well as on the Main Rockway calendar.
Academic Program
Rockway offers an outstanding and rigorous academic program for students in Grades 7 through 12. Our school is fully accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training, and awards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Rockway, however, offers a more enriched and dynamic learning environment than you will find in most schools. And our students emerge from their time here ready to succeed and excel in whatever futures they choose to pursue.
See our course calendar here.
Secondary Online and Correspondence Education
Rockway students are encouraged to consider online and correspondence courses that are not offered at Rockway or when a course does not fit in a student’s timetable. Registration for online and correspondence courses occurs through Student Services. Tuition fees, where applicable are the student’s responsibility.
To be successful at an online course, students must demonstrate a strong level of motivation and self-directed learning in order to be successful. To support the student in this process, Student Services asks for students and parents to sign a learning contract before online learning begins.
Exams Process
- Grades 7-8 students do not write exams. For both Semesters, all course evaluation is done during regular class time.
- Grade 9 students write exams for their core subjects (Math, English, French, Geography, Science & Religious Studies).
- Grades 9-12 students write exams for their courses in the Assembly Area. The schedule for these exams will be posted in the school and on the website, at least four weeks prior to the exam week, in each Semester.
Grade 10 Literacy Test
- Students will normally take the test in their Grade 10 year.
- The test will be based on the Ontario curriculum expectations for language and communication (particularly reading and writing) up to and including Grade 9.
- The test will identify those students who have not demonstrated the required skills and will identify areas in which these students need remediation.
- Rockway will provide remedial assistance for students who do not complete the test successfully.
- This test is a diploma requirement which must be written successfully before an OSSD can be issued.
