For those unfamiliar with our retirees, here is a bit of information about them and their time at Rockway:

Deb Baxter Heeney came to Rockway in 2003 after 10 years of experience in Guidance and English classroom instruction with the Waterloo Region District School Board. At Rockway, her Guidance role was most often combined with grades 7 to 12 English and Social Sciences. A highlight of Deb’s career at Rockway was teaching grade 8 English from 2015 to 2020. The last 5 years have found her in Student Services full time. Deb brought extra-curricular leadership to the Cross-Country and Track teams, as well as many years of costuming for our school drama productions.

Ray Boehm graduated from Rockway in 1984. While at the University of Waterloo, he volunteered as a Basketball coach and worked for Rockway as part of his Kinesiology co-op experience. After graduating from university, he returned to Rockway to work before heading off to Teacher’s College. Ray landed his dream job in 1995, returning to Rockway to teach Science, Phys Ed and Religious Studies. He took over as Athletics Director in 2000 and has been in the role ever since.

Karen Scott Booth was first introduced to the Rockway community as a parent, when her daughter joined the very first grade 7 class. Years later, in 1994, with the youngest of her three children about to graduate from Rockway, she agreed to cover the Visual Arts courses at Rockway for one semester. Somehow that one semester became 30 years of her sharing technical expertise, knowledge, and practical experience, while creating a welcoming and stimulating studio environment for all. She expanded the Art curriculum by introducing Art History textbooks for grades 10 to 13, together with grade-specific trips to Art Galleries and Museums and expanding the annual Visual Arts Exhibition to include all grade levels.
