2016 Chapel theme art unveiled

20160211163209-c9b99c12Grade 12 Visual Art students, Sarah Plant and Georgia Harrison took on the challenge of creating a work of art that depicted this year’s chapel theme, “Grounded in the Centre, Growing on the Edges“. And they did not disappoint! Their creation is an intricate collage that captures our theme beautifully.

Read a description of this piece, in the words of the artists themselves:

“‘Grounded in the centre, growing on the edges’ is the 2015-2016 chapel theme.

The centre of your body is your heart; it is what keeps you alive by pumping blood which transports all sorts of necessary things throughout your system. In our collage, we used the image of a heart as a visual representation of not only the individuals here, but our school body as a whole. 20160211163122-d5f9da76

The heart is grounded and centred with God, which is shown by the heart being held by God’s hand. Being here at Rockway, along with embracing God’s love, we are able to grow and expand our faith.

The trees that emerge and grow from the heart symbolize this ever expanding faith. It will continue to grow as long as we remain centred and surrounded by God’s unfailing and nurturing love.

We had a lot of fun working on this piece and we hope that you all enjoy the product as much as we enjoyed the process!”

Their work was unveiled during chapel last week, and has been hung in our worship space as a visual reminder to all.
