On Saturday, October 24th the double doors of the performance center at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate opened up to an evening of food, fellowship and uproarious entertainment. There was frenzied bidding from the get go on the myriad of silent auction items and a buzz of conversation as many Rockway people connected or reconnected in an atmosphere of anticipation.

20151027124637-68b9676cIt wasn’t long after the welcome, the introductions of our honoured Xindu guests and a word of prayer that the gratification of a wonderful evening began. Cheerful volunteers served a tantalizing meal of stuffed pork loin, scalloped potatoes and flavourful harvest chutney & salads. Meanwhile the fellowship and silent auction bidding continued unfettered. Lively bidding on the 70th Anniversary Quilt, Sharon Brown’s exquisite designer pies, and numerous cottage getaways all added to the excitement.

Such a spirit of warm generosity was present! After their purchase, the Shantz families announced they were donating the 70th Anniversary Quilt back to the school.  Our Chinese guests also made a heartwarming gift of the Grandfather clock in a symbolic gesture representing our ongoing partnership.

20151027124726-7f472056The highlight for many, however, was the refreshing comedic performance of performer Matt Falk who kept the multi-generational audience in stitches throughout his presentation. His clean and wholesome act along with his bubbly personality was a fantastic complement to the evening.

As part of his closing, Matt took time to emphasize how he found himself inspired after merely spending a few hours with a Rockway teacher – Charles Kruger. He emphasized the need to continue to support Rockway as a place where many a student (like himself) had become motivated to do something more with their life.

All in all it was a spectacular evening enjoyed by all!! A special thank you to our sponsors, and to everyone who came out in support of our amazing community!
