Alumni Living Library: Sharing our stories

20151027124408-3a697290Seven decades. Seven Rockway Alumni. Seven unique stories brought to life before our very eyes.

The Rockway Alumni Living Library, held during the recent Connections Weekend, brought seven amazing stories to life in Rockway’s actual library amidst the backdrop of bookcases, a collection of the guests’ personal memorabilia and lively conversation.

20151027124258-538fd12bParents and students who visited the Living Library asked questions about the nature of each of the guest’s winding path that followed their time as Rockway students.

To a master craftsman of custom handmade planes, “How did you get into making your own tools?” and “You make guitars, too?”

To an author, “When you write a story, do you begin with character or plot?” and “If      I’m interested in writing, which post-secondary programs should I consider?”

20151027124341-5ef94b46To a former NHL player, “Will you sign my hockey card?”

To a post-graduate Occupational Therapy student, “What area of occupational therapy are you considering once you’ve finished your Masters program?”

Tahir Shah, in Arabian Nights” said “stories are a communal currency of humanity” and our sincerest gratitude goes to following alumni for graciously sharing stories with us about the paths they’ve walked:

  • Robert (Bob) Witmer ’48 (Retired Pastor)
  • Mary (nee Hunsberger) Schiedel ’55 (Retired Teacher and Pastor)
  • Brad Schlegel ’86 (Businessman & Retired Professional Hockey Player)
  • Konrad Sauer ‘89 (Custom Hand Plane Designer)
  • Carrie Snyder ’93 (Author)
  • Jenny Enns Modolo ’97 (Professional Singer)
  • Ashleigh Laine ‘ 08 (Post-Graduate Occupational Therapy Student)
