Annual FOOD DRIVE is on!

Posted on: November 26th, 2013

IMG_6055Rockway has a long history of service in the community. One of our most significant service opportunities is the annual Food Drive that has been part of Rockway life for almost two decades.

Students collect cans by having can collecting parties, donating their own money, asking friends, family, alumni and even their teachers to donate. Students are encouraged to consider making the Food Drive their family giving project.

All of the collected food goes to House of Friendship’s Christmas Hamper Program which, along with the help of about 600 volunteers, packs and distributes thousands of food hampers to needy families in Waterloo Region.

This year, Christine Rier of House of Friendship, spoke at chapel to thank students for their annual contribution. She emphasized that Rockway’s Food Drive was a major contributor to the Food Hamper program, and without this effort, many families would be in need this season.

Rockway’s Student Council is courageously leading the food collection effort this year by offering themselves up to receive a pie-in-the-face and to dye their hair as the student body gets closer to their goal of 90 cans per student. If students collect 100 cans per student, Rockway will break its all-time record! Stay tuned for updates on their progress towards this goal.
