Badminton!

BadmintonThis past weekend, our junior and senior badminton teams competed at the Phoenix Invitational badminton tournament which is held annually at Resurrection Catholic Secondary School.

This tournament is popular with schools in the Region as it has a reputation for being fun and providing good playing experience leading up to the District 8 championships in April. Due to this popularity, our senior team was limited to one entry in each of the five playing categories and despite our reduced roster, the players performed very well.

Our Girls doubles team of Sarah Brubacher and Ali Langwieder, made it all the way to the final match where their determined play under pressure got them within two points of the title. It was as close as can be and an exciting way to begin the weekend!

The juniors took to the court the next day with a full roster of participants. Rockway has a well-rounded junior squad and it showed, with all our players finishing in the top half of the standings. We had excellent results across all categories, including second place finishes by girls singles player, Kristine Wu; girls doubles pair, Alex Johnson and Emma Young; and boys doubles pair, Aidan Cameron and Nathan Hebel. The day was a great learning experience for everyone.

Thanks to parents who gave up their weekend to support the teams and to the players who were outstanding representatives of our school!
