Read about the canoe tripping portion of Expedition 2014, as relayed by Grade 9 participant, Elhana Dyck:

Canoe Trips can be tough if you’re not willing to try new and/or slightly crazy things. Ten of us along with Bernie and Lindsay set out on an overcast morning, prepared to be soaked and possibly rained out by the thunderstorm that had been predicted. We were pleasantly surprised throughout the day as our biggest concern became putting on enough sunscreen rather than setting up tents in the rain.

The nice weather continued throughout the three days that we spent paddling over 70 km down the Grand River, travelling from West Montrose to Paris.

In addition to canoeing we had a lot of fun at our camp sites where we did a variety of activities such as swimming in a fish breeding pond, putting up tents missing half their equipment and playing far too many rounds of Dutch Blitz. There were an abundance of ukulele jam sessions around the fire even with the many mosquitoes! We had more than enough food to last us throughout the trip but we’d like to thank Rachel for making an excessive amount of muffins and Nutella cookies for snack breaks.

Overall this trip was a fun way to be in the Great Outdoors but still have the luxury of pancakes and bacon for breakfast.
