China Trip 2013

Pg2.Image.China (1)This year nine Rockway students and chaperones had the opportunity to leave home and travel to China for 18 days. I believe that all of us would agree that China was a life changing experience which provided us with memories that will last a lifetime. Not only did we get the chance to see and explore China’s land and historical sites, we were given the opportunity to make new friends, stay with a host family, and enjoy some very different food.

All nine students were placed with a host family from the school to stay with for 36 hours. For most of us this was an exciting experience and for others it was a bit of a challenge to be so far away from home, but we all managed to get through it and appreciate our friends when we gathered back together at the school in Xindu!

We climbed many stairs and walked many km in order to see wild monkeys, Tiananmen Square, the Terracotta Warriors, The Great Wall, and so many other fascinating sites. The Great Wall was lots of fun and as a group we decided to dress up in funky outfits and do a dance on the wall just to say we did it on the great wall! The wild monkeys were not as cute as they might look; never hold things in your hand, and never leave your pockets open with stuff in them unless you want to be attacked. They were not afraid to jump on us, go into our pockets or, and for one girl on the trip, to go ahead and bite her!!!

We were introduced to so many new and fascinating things that we will never forget. I believe that if you have the chance, you should travel the world. Gaining knowledge and experiencing other countries can help you appreciate the country you live in, and for me, going to China helped me understand and appreciate what a beautiful country I live in.
