CWOSSA Silver Medalists!
The Junior boys basketball team wrapped up their season last week at the CWOSSA A championship held in Walkerton. The team faced the host school Walkerton District Community School.
After a bit of a sluggish start, the boys finally got some of their shots to fall and took control for the remainder of the game. Every team member had a chance to score and make a contribution to the outcome. The win advanced the team to the championship game against Waterford District SS.
Waterford presented a zone defence that the team had not seen before. The boys tried to force the issue which resulted in turn overs and a significant deficit at the end of the first quarter. The team exercised some patience on offense and played exceptional defence to cut into the lead. By the third quarter, Rockway faced a 15 point deficit. We called a time out and switched defensive strategies allowing us to gradually and steadily work our way back into the game. Although an exhilarating finish, it was a case of “too little too late”…final score 54-48 Waterford.
