Discovery
The last number of weeks I have had the opportunity to engage and participate in many activities at Rockway. Homecoming week-end allowed me to connect with past and present students, parents and constituents. The spaghetti supper prepared by the Grade 10 class, followed by a fun-filled alumni sports challenge was an evening of re-connecting and reminiscing. The next morning, I gave a State of the Union Address to retired Rockway teachers, and had the opportunity to thank them for the quality education they provided when I was a student. Rockway’s Auction Extravaganza reminded me of the vast number of Rockway supporters, who contributed through volunteering, donating items and/or bidding!
The last few weeks I have also had the opportunity to watch basketball and volleyball games, attend church visits of the Grade 10 Choir and Senior Choir, attend some Seussical rehearsals as well as sign the British North American Act for Grade 8 History! This past Wednesday, I was delighted to meet and connect with many new prospective students and families at the Discover Rockway Night.
Throughout all of these activities, I have marvelled at how I continue to discover new things about this place. After many years of attending the spaghetti supper, I discovered who is responsible for the secret recipe of the sauce! After many years of attending the auction, I discovered the myriad of work that takes place behind the scenes! After interacting with students, I continue to discover the beauty and energy of our youth, their love for life, as well as the challenges they face. After many years of attending recruitment events, I discovered more about the intricacies of our academic and extra-curricular programs, as I engaged with displays and dialogued with teachers about their practices. Truly this is a dynamic school!
Rockway is a place to discover……and I look forward to discovering more as the days, weeks, and months unfold!
