Ella scores a basket!
On Friday October 4th, the Senior Girls Basketball team entered their home tournament full of enthusiasm and grit.
During their second game against St Mary’s, there was great excitement when Ella Speckeen, a new student at Rockway, sunk her very first game basket in the fourth quarter. The moment was extra special because it happened to be Ella’s birthday and her mother, visiting from all the way from England, was there watching the game!
When Ella sunk the basket, players from both benches as well as ALL the fans erupted into wild applause to cheer her accomplishment – and much to the coaches’ dismay, her team mates stopped to give her a hug rather than getting back on defense!
The tournament also brought our team’s first win of the season during the semi-final match of the Friendship draw – an exciting 31 to 23 victory over Preston. Moving on to the Friendship final, they scored a a season high of 41 points in a losing cause against Walkerton. Well done girls!
