Family Picnic & Outdoor Movie Night

Join us for our first-ever Family Picnic & Outdoor Movie Night – a fun, family-friendly event for all ages…and it’s all FREE!  

Rockway wants to thank its current families, alumni and friends for their incredible support, and belief in the work being done within these walls, over the last number of years. As we end our first year post-pandemic, it has been wonderful to be able to have our community return to our building…now it’s time to celebrate together! 

JOIN US! Friday, June 16, 2023, for an evening of carnival games and snacks, BBQ bites, ultimate frisbee and top it off with an outdoor movie! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, refillable water bottles and picnic gear (cups, plates and utensils as you’re able) and spend an evening having fun together. Rain or shine! 

What to Expect

  • 5:00 – 8:00 pm – Carnival Games (we will move into the gyms if it’s raining) 
    • Young or old, you’ll enjoy our giant Plinko, Connect Four, Skee Ball, Ring Toss, Jenga and other carnival-like games
    • Fill out your Carnival Passport by participating in the games to earn the chance to get the Admin Team wet in the Dunk Tank from 6:30-8:00.
  • 5:00 – 9:30 – Snacks and Drink
    • Enjoy popcorn, candy floss and drinks
  • 5:30 – 6:30 pm – Ultimate Frisbee
    • Play Ultimate on the soccer field – don’t know how to play? No worries – we will show you how!
  • 6:00 – 7:30 pm – BBQ Bites* 
    • We will be providing FREE hamburgers and hotdogs
    •  V, GF options available when you RSVP
    • Set your chairs and blankets on the ball diamond field, limited picnic tables are available 
  • 7:00 – 8:30 pm – Ice Cream Truck
    • Enjoy a FREE ice cream cone, popsicle, slushee or sundae
  • 6:30 – 8:00 – Dunk Tank
    •  With your filled out Carnival Passport, try your chance at getting one of the Admin Team wet in the Dunk Tank. 
  • 9:15 pm-ish (dusk) – Outdoor Movie on the Ball Diamond (bring your lawn chairs, blankets etc.)
    • We will be watching the 2012 adaptation of Dr. Seuss’, The Lorax

A few important details:

  • Parking: With so many people registered to attend, please consider carpooling to the event. If you are driving, parking will be available in the North Parking Lot, at First Hmong Mennonite Church (across the street from the school) and on Doon Road in front of the school.

  • Help us be kind to the environment: 

As you are able, please bring your own refillable water bottles, cups, plates and utensils to cut down on the use of Rockway supplied bamboo utensils, paper plates and cups.

  • Bring warm clothing: The weather is looking good for Friday but it will get cool when the sun goes down. Remember to bring lawn chairs, blankets and warm clothing for our viewing of our outdoor movie, The Lorax.

This event will happen rain or shine – we are looking forward to welcoming you to the Rockway grounds.
