German Contest Success!
Rockway student Vivian Chau entered the 46th Annual High School German Contest, which was held at Appleby College in Oakville on Sunday April 9th. She was competing against other beginner German students from schools in Toronto, Hamilton, Cambridge and Kitchener. Each student had to complete a difficult reading, listening, writing, and grammar test and was then interviewed by two German teachers.
At the awards ceremony students received prizes in four different categories. Vivian placed third overall in the beginner category (A) amidst a very strong team from UTS (University of Toronto Schools). In the B category the winner received a 4 week educational trip to Germany this summer, donated by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of German. Other prizes consisted of cash, books,and a variety of other items donated by many different sponsors.
