Girls Slo-pitch Debut at Rockway

slo pitch (1)Girl’s slo-pitch had its debut at Rockway this spring. Girls from across the high school grades dusted off their gloves and headed for the diamond. We honed pitching skills, learned to catch and throw with accuracy, and especially enjoyed hitting practices. By the end of the season we got the bats going and moved those ducks around the pond!

We learned to pick up the nice hop, take a crow step and fire to first! We learned that spits stay in the dugout, and the red bat definitely has a sweet spot! And we learned that when the third base coach says “tag up”, you defy all logic and book it home, surprising the other team so badly that they misplay the relay and overthrow the plate. Home run!

slo pitch (3)The season proved to be a lot of fun for the team—friendships developed across the grades and we established core skills to build on for the future. Special thanks to our team managers, head coach, Jo Scott and our faithful fans.
