Grade 7 & 8 Winter Retreat

Posted on: February 9th, 2015

PUless 2Rockway places tremendous value on community building and fostering healthy face-to-face relationships. It’s because of this that we send every grade on some form of retreat, where students step outside normal academic life and are challenged to get to know each other in new ways.

Our grade 7/8 classes recently returned from their retreat – here’s a brief description of this event in the words of three grade 7 students:

IMG_1096“On January 21st,  the grade 7-8 class packed into a small yellow school bus for a two hour trip to Silver Lake Mennonite Camp for our annual winter retreat.

When we arrived at Silver Lake, we dropped our equipment off at the cabins. We went into the dining hall and met our counselors and were surprised to see three Rockway grads: Jocelyn Cameron, Isaac Winterfeld, and Robert MacGregor.

After meeting our counselors, we went snowshoeing, broomballing, and practiced survival skills. We then had delicious supper and dessert. After dark, we went outside and played a flashlight game. This was fun…but cold! An indoor campfire where we sang camp songs and had a devotional led by counsellors about appreciating the awesome world around us was next. Then it was time for bed. Everyone woke up at 7 a.m. and ate a filling breakfast. Yum!

The retreat wrapped up with a closing activity of snowshoeing, broomballing, and survival skills, and after lunch, we boarded the bus again and headed home. This retreat was a fun way to hang out with friends and get to know each other better.”
