On Tuesday September 20th, the grade nines went on a one day retreat to meet new people and bond as a class. We started out the day by participating in several “get to know you” games before we split into groups. After a brief discussion, the four groups set out to partake in a series of recreational activities. The purpose of these games was to help you get you to know your fellow classmates and learn how to work with them. We played “trust fall”, participated in two team problem solving activities and played an entertaining game of “grounders”.

These included other trust activities such as “low ropes”, where we were forced to rely on our classmates to navigate us safely through complicated rope obstacles. During one of these activities, participants had to close their eyes and depend solely on their classmates to guide them through an intricate series of “laser beams” without ever touching the ropes. We also played some classics like Bocce Ball, Spoons and Apples to Apples.

Dinner was delicious! We enjoyed a main course of lasagna and garlic bread with apple crumble and icecream for dessert. We had some free time after dinner before we played a wide game of “Capture the Tie”. Soon after, we all gathered around the campfire and took turns leading campsongs until it was time to go home. Overall, we thought this was a very fun and very successful retreat. We look forward to more like it in the future!
