Grades 7 & 8 Peace Festival

IMG_9639This year the Grades 7 & 8 leadership team chose to focus on hygiene kits for our Peace Festival that took place on Friday, February 28th. A hygiene kit is a small bag that includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, nail clippers, a towel and a bar of soap, that is distributed by Mennonite Central Committee to people around the world who don’t have access to those items.

We asked for donations most of the mornings in February and over all we managed to raise $650. From that money we bought enough supplies to pack 46 kits and we donated $430 to MCC.

Our guest speaker at the festival was Allan Reesor-McDowell from MCC. He helped us really understand the need for hygiene kits in the world. We also learned through several activities such as Jeopardy, an obstacle course and a craft where you had to make a collage with pictures of things that related to hygiene kits.  After these activities, we packed the kits which were then sent to MCC.

Thank you to those who donated to this year’s Peace Festival project as your help made this possible.
