Grads Celebrate with Retreat Day

4963859As most students were filing into their first period classes, members of the 2014 graduating class were helping themselves to scrumptious pancakes, sausages, coffee and enjoying the camaraderie of having breakfast with peers. This was only the beginning of a day of celebration and reflection for the senior students who boarded a bus to the gorgeous green-space around Floradale Mennonite Church. Once there, an outdoor scavenger hunt with digital and physical clues scattered the students far and wide.

During the reflective, sharing part of the day, we got to hear from each student about their plans for next year as well as a highlight from their time at Rockway. Then time capsules of written reflections and notes from friends were sealed up and will be mailed to students in ten years. Where, oh where will they be then?

The retreat day culminated in students selecting their class valedictorian and the process was clearly an exasperating one for students because of the close connection of the group and the suitability of all those nominated. Congratulations goes out to Matt Steinman who was finally selected to speak on behalf of the class at graduation in June.

Hold on to your hats, grads, because the stage is almost set for you to walk across it and start the next part of your fabulous journey!
