The Mennonite Story

mennonitestoryOn Thursday, November 28th grade 10 students toured The Mennonite Story in St. Jacobs, a multi-media museum display recounting the origins, history, migration patterns and current global involvement of Mennonites.

This field trip was an opportunity to extend and enhance the grade 10 Church History curriculum. A video and Q & A with the manager also introduced our students to some of the beliefs and practices of the Old Order Mennonite communities in our local area, such as the dating practices of Old Order Mennonite teens!

Some students discovered threads of their own family stories. Many were shocked by the severe persecution Anabaptists and Mennonites suffered at various points in their history.

All of us were encouraged to think about the stories, traditions and values that have shaped our lives so far. We capped off the morning with a sweet treat from the Stone Crock Bakery in St. Jacobs!
