Rockway has a proud tradition of cross country running in the fall. This year however, given the large number of devoted team members who graduated in the past two years, we were a little worried about how many runners would take up this endurance challenge.

Once again Rockway students demonstrated the great spirit of participation! An enthusiastic team of 21 students from grades 7-12 gathered through September and October for warm up games (that frequently included a rubber chicken and losing Mr. Pauls’ keys), ladder choreography and of course, distance running. At least 16 of our team members were “rookies”, having never been part of a running team before!

Rockway runners competed in a total of 8 races at different hilly locations around the region, with distances varying from 3km to 7km. Highlights for this year included Drew McMurtry’s barefoot trek around the rugged trails of Bechtel Park and the dominating performance put in by our grade 8 boys at the Forest Heights Trojan Trek.

The weather was fantastic for running this fall and fun was had by all!
