O Holy Night: Christmas Concert 2016

Posted on: December 22nd, 2016

It’s my favourite Rockway event of the year  – when family and friends of Rockway fill the magnificent sanctuary at St. Matthew’s for an evening of festive music. Choirs, soloists, ensembles, strings and winds…they all contribute to the magic. Not to mention the whole-hearted congregational singing that rivals the choirs themselves!

20161215123320-3728bc8fThis year’s Christmas concert was no exception. Rockway music students delighted the congregation with melodies of all sorts, from the most sacred Fauré to the whimsical PDQ Bach, complete with actions!

The pinnacle of the event, however, was the mass choir. The experience of 170 young voices, from grades 7 through 12, all working together to sing “O Holy Night” truly captured the wonder of the season. It was a powerful memory that neither students or audience members will soon forget.

Thank you to all Rockway music students for sharing of their gifts on this special night! It just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without it.
