September 29 – October 1st will be Spiritual Emphasis Week at Rockway. The focus of the week will be on “Mental Wellness” and will feature scholar and therapist Dr. Melissa Hofstetter from Los Angeles, California.

What is Spiritual Emphasis Week?
Rockway’s Spiritual Emphasis Week is a time where the Rockway community intentionally focuses on a topic that is timely to our current age. An off campus speaker provides the input for three extended chapels, class visits and a parent session. Rockway students have the opportunity to explore the chosen topic through Biblical study as well as through practical education and application.

0b29564Hofstetter is a clinical psychologist and is licensed as an ordained minister in the Pacific Southwest, Mennonite Church USA. In addition to her private practice, she teaches psychology to undergraduates at Azusa Pacific University and has a passion for mentoring students as they enter young adulthood.

Ms. Hofstetter will give three chapel addresses, entitled:

  • “Living Inside Out in God’s Upside-Down Kingdom”
  • “Teen in Transformation: The Amazing, Changing Brain”, and
  • “From “I” to “We”: Shifting Focus from Illness to Wellness in Christian Community”.

All students and parents are invited to an evening session on Wednesday, September 30th at 7 p.m. where Dr. Hofstetter will give a summary of her three addresses and facilitate a discussion on mental wellness. We are grateful for Mennonite Church Eastern Canada, who are sponsoring the evening session.
