The Ultimate Challenge

Posted on: June 17th, 2015

IMG_1533This spring a total of 28 students had a blast as members of Rockway’s Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee Team. The “pre-season” training started in the climate controlled gym, which gave us plenty of opportunity to refine throwing technique without the challenge of dealing with windy conditions. It didn’t take long before we were game ready and it was time to move outdoors.

We participated in two competitive tournaments, and hosted two exhibition games here at Rockway. At the “Dandelion Dust-up Tournament” in Guelph we took the silver medal, battling St. Benedict’s in a very, very tight final game. At the District 8 Finals we again took silver…after some excellent round-robin play. Each year this relatively new Rockway team greatly improves and we’re really looking forward to building with this base of talented new players next year.

Many thanks to Daniel Johnson and Matt McGill, two ultimate-loving Rockway grads, who came out to almost every practice to offer their expertise. Ultimate is the only sport where you get to play “spirit games” and you can comfortably compete while wearing a crazy costume.  Thanks for a fantastic season!
