On May 19, our grade 8 class got to school bright and early and left for the six hour trip to the capital of Canada, Ottawa. After a long journey, we arrived at Carleton University where we unpacked our things in our rooms and got settled.

At our first supper, we all agreed that the food there was amazing! Our first evening was fun-filled, and included swimming and a trip to Dairy Queen.

DSCN0059The next day was a day of walking. We walked around Capitol Hill, and went on a photo Scavenger Hunt. Poor Julia dropped her phone in the water during this event! After that we went to Byward Market for lunch and then to the National Gallery of Canada. The art was truly beautiful! Then we walked over to Rideau Falls and Rideau Hall, where we got a guided tour. Following supper it was movie time!

DSCN0139The next day we visited a lot of museums. The Canadian War Museum was really cool and had a lot of interesting things that were new to us. It was also sad though because of all the soldiers who were lost. Then we went to the parliament buildings for an inside tour. We saw things like the House of Commons and the Senate. Our guide really knew his way around there and was very funny. At the end, we had time to go to the top of the Peace Tower to see a beautiful view, the best in Ottawa.

After lunch at the Byward Market, we went to the Canadian History Museum. The children’s museum there was a favourite of everyone. The evening consisted of some shopping at the Rideau Centre and the famous Haunted Walk. Most people were pretty scared – there were lots of screams and shouts!

The next day we boarded the bus and started on the long journey home. Everyone would agree that Ottawa was the highlight of our grade 8 year!
