Werbung für Deutsch! Rockway wins local German contest

Posted on: June 5th, 2016

On May 27th, four members of Rockway’s grade 11 German class participated in the University of Wilfrid Laurier German Contest 2016. The contest used a new model this year: each team had to create a video around a certain German-related theme. Teams had three hours to plan, script and film a short video in the morning followed by three hours to edit their videos in the afternoon. The given topic was: “Werbung für Deutsch” (“Advertising for German”) aimed at inspiring younger students to study the language. Rockway’s team worked hard and managed to submit their creation before the deadline of 4 pm.

This week the team attended the W.L.Bitzer Awards ceremony, which was hosted by Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. We listened to a keynote address from his Excellency Jörn Rosenberg, the Deputy to the Ambassador for the Federal Republic of Germany, who came in from Ottawa, as well as a number of other distinguished guests from the Region.

Finally the big moment arrived: the student videos were shown and the prizes were handed out. The team from Glenview and Galt Collegiate won 3rd place, Bluevale Collegiate won 2nd place and the entry from Rockway won first place! Congratulations to Kat Allaby, Daniel Clark, Luke Hamel and Ben Martin who made up the Rockway team.

Herzliche Glückwünshe!
