A Family Affair Quilt Exhibit

Posted on: November 6th, 2014

Jenn and ClaudiaThis year we are pleased to feature the work of Rockway parent Jennifer Schumm and her daughter Claudia Schumm a grade twelve student, in our annual quilt exhibit in the Silo.

Jennifer Schumm, Quilting by Design studio is located in New Hamburg.  Jennifer offers custom piecing and machine quilting as well as fabric and quilting notions.  Rockway staff who quilt, have discovered that Jennifer is adept in helping customers find the perfect machine-quilting design to “bring their vision to life”.  Office staff recently pieced a lap quilt for Rockway’s 21st Annual Auction Extravaganza which Jennifer generously machine quilted for us.

In addition to her quilting business, Jennifer has found the time to produce many quilts of her own. All of the quilts in this display have been completed in the last two years! Jennifer has passed on her love of quilting to her daughters Claudia and Julia. The feature quilt “Northern Lights” was made by Claudia.

The theme for the quilts in this display is “fun and whimsical” and they lean heavily on bold geometric patterns and colours. Visitors should not be surprised to see a blue police box floating in space or curious owls and cats observing from their perches.

Rockway offers public tours of the display. Should you wish to visit our quilt exhibit, please contact the main office for more information.  A Family Affair exhibit runs until June 2015.
